A new season of football started in Scotland today so I was off to try my hand at some sports photography.
Glenesk Park was the destination home of Dundee Violet the only Dundee side to win the Scottish Junior Cup(1928/29)
Violet also saw the talents of James Scotland Symon(Scot Symon) who would go on to have a senior playing career with Dundee, Portsmouth and Rangers he is also one of only two players to be capped for Scotland on both the football and cricket field the other being Andy Goram.
Once Symon’s playing career was over he would go on to have a successful managerial career leading East Fife to Scottish League Cup glory and Scottish Cup runners up. After East Fife he moved to Preston North End taking them to an FA Cup Final.
After a year at Preston it was home to Scotland and Rangers taking over from the legendary Bill Struth he would lead the Ibrox club to six League Championships and two European finals.
Dundee Violet were unable to achieve back to back promotions last season and started this season on the wrong end of a 0-3 scoreline. A long way to go though.
I would have maybe photographed the goals but they came early in the second half and I was enjoying a couple of pints of Guinness at the time.
Pretty happy with my first stab at sports photography although I have cropped on most of them, I know naughty boy.
Used two cameras for these my Nikon and my trusty old FZ45.
In the professional game a player would have had to hobble to the touchline and spray some water on his ankle magically returning to full fitness. In the juniors they just get on with it.
