Not my original plans for Saturday but the miserable start to the day and seeing a tweet about today’s game at Glenesk I decided to head out for some football photography.
A home match for Dundee Violet against East Craigie, Violet’s league form has been poor this season and going into this match they’re bottom of the McBookie.com East Premier League with only one win at home. East Craigie are mid table in the division below and would be hoping to progress to the semi finals against the Pansies.
It wasn’t too long before the first goal scored by East Craigie’s number nine slamming home from close range after some bobbling about in front of goal.
A crunching tackle by Violet’s number two on the East Craigie goalscorer brings howls of protest from the Craigie bench and the first yellow card of the match.
A looping header from Violets’s number five draws them level.
East Craigie’s number tens earlier determination pays off with a headed effort putting the Shipbuilders back in front.
Almost immediately after going a goal up they concede a penalty at the other end which is duly dispatched with the keeper going the wrong way.
The first half ends with both sides level not too much between both teams.
Almost as soon as the second half starts Violet go in front for the first time in the match. Can they stay in front?
Craigie go close to equalising but the ball goes across the face of the goal and is closely watched as it goes behind for a goal kick.
Impeccably dressed support turns up today with two of the most fantastic beards you’ll ever see especially the first one, expertly groomed! Back to the action.
Hard to follow a match when you’re mainly viewing it through a lens but the Craigie captain saw a lot of the ball in the second half.
Craigie draw level their number nine getting his second of the match and wheeling away fists clenched like a prime Marco Tardelli.
Amazingly it’s the seventh goal of the game as Violet go back in front surely Craigie can’t pull another back.
A second yellow card and Violet go down to ten men and Craigie have a real chance to get back into this match.
Craigie pile on pressure Violet’s keeper above tries to prevent a corner and below the defence holds out against another corner.
5-3! Ten man Violet score again and surely put the game beyond any doubt.
Not a bad afternoon of football an eight goal thriller, never been to Glenesk and seen a goalless match. Violet still have a chance in the cup to make up for their poor league form this season.
